Culture, new wooden construction and traditional environments – a two-day trip to the past and present

Welcome to an architecture-themed tour of the Vehkaniemi area. The journey begins at the Juupajoki and Ruovesi sites, where you can see old and new wooden construction. The Kallenautio kievari museum dates back to the 18th century. A gem of new architecture is the new building of the Hyytiälä forest station – an honorable mention in the Finlandia Prize in 2024.

After the beautiful Kautunvuolte, a former canal site, detour to the center of Ruovesi, where there is a century-old wooden church and the legendary Vinha bookstore. On the way towards Vehkaniemi, the pearls of the landscape, natural attractions Syvinkisalmi and Salussärkkä offer picturesque resting places. In the village oasis of Pohjaslahti, you can see the rustic funky-style Pohjaslinna, the Palellusvuori observation tower and Pohjaslahti Church - the only Danish-style, light-plastered stone church in Finland.

The day ends at the Vehkaniemi family farm, where you will stay in a rustic courtyard under the centuries-old logs, or at the magnificent viewpoint on the beach at Panorama. As an independent evening program, visit the Virtai wooden church, for example, dinner at the Virtai harbor and the Toriseva gorge lakes. You will return to the accommodation via Monoskylä, winding along the former rally speedway, admiring the sunset-tinged countryside. The evening is crowned by a seaside sauna, for example, in the minimalist Landscape Sauna on the beach with a view of the far Lake Vehkajärvi - enjoying the gentle steam of a genuine wood-fired stove!

Enjoy a rustic breakfast and explore the many different spaces and art exhibitions in the courtyard. Art and local crafts for sale.
